This is an original 1895 black and white steel engraving of a portrait of William Augustus Prentiss, who first came to Milwaukee in 1836 from his hometown in Northfield, Massachusetts. Prentiss was the first Republican Mayor of Milwaukee. He was also a prominent and active member in the community, serving on the Wisconsin State Assembly, the Milwaukee Pioneer Association, the Milwaukee Common Council, the Board of Trustees of the Village of Milwaukee. He was also the first president in the formation of Wisconsin's constitution.
