This is an original 1895 black and white wood engraving of a portrait of Constantine the Great. Constantine was the first Roman Emperor to convert to Christianity. He issued the Edict of Milan which proclaimed religious tolerance of all religions throughout the empire while defeating emperors Maxentius and Licinius during the Civil Wars. He also fought against the Franks, Alamanni, Visigoths and Sarmatians.
