This is an original 1896 monochrome photogravure of Louise de Lorraine. She was unloved as a child, which prompted her to grow into a calm, sedated adult. Henry III of France was attracted to her while visiting her cousin, and soon asked for her hand. They had a cute marriage, continually in each other's company. Unfortunately, their union produced no heirs. This did put some pressure on their relationship, not enough for a divorce or separation despite rumors. Tragically, Henry was assassinated, leaving a depressed Louise to wander the corridors of the Chenonceau Château in the traditional white mourning garb of queens. As a result, she was often referred to as the White Queen.
