This is an original 1896 black and white halftone print of "View at Matanzas, on the Road to the Caves." This late nineteenth century image documents the city of Matanzas, Cuba, the capital of the province of Matanzas. Located on the northern shore of the island, the city is frequently referred to as the "City of Bridges," of which it has seventeen traversing the city's three rivers. The road in this image leads to nearby Bellamar caves, a National Monument of Cuba.
