This is an original 1897 black and white halftone print of a historic image of St. Peter's Cathedral, also referred to as the St. Pierre Cathedral. While, the modern day cathedral was erected during the 12th century, the ground beneath it has since been excavated, revealing that the site's history actually dates back to the 8th-10th centuries when the Roman Empire ruled the area. Today, the present cathedral belongs to the Swiss Reformed Church.
