1899 Print Torpedo Boat Ericsson Santiago Reuterdahl - ORIGINAL

This is an original 1899 black and white print of the torpedo boat "Ericsson" during the Spanish-American War of 1898.

Period Paper is pleased to offer an outstanding collection of original historical color and black and white print illustrations of the Spanish-American War that were published in 1899. Following the sinking of the Battleship Maine in Havana harbor on February 15, 1898, the United States declared war on Spain on April 25, 1898. The war ended on December 10, 1898 with the signing of the Treaty of Paris resulting in Spain losing Cuba, Puerto Rico, the Philippines, Guam and other islands in its overseas empire. Some of these prints are printed on heavier stock with no printing on the reverse, while others are on regular stock and may have text on the reverse. Although the condition of each print varies, this collection will be of interest to the serious history collector.

This 112+ year old Item is rated Near Mint / Very Fine. No aging. No creases. No tears. No water damage. Very well preserved. Please note that there is printing on the reverse.

Henry Reuterdahl

(1871-1925) Henry Reuterdahl was best known for his paintings of ships and the sea. He is also known for his recruiting posters for WWI when he was artistic advisor to the U.S. Navy Recruiting Bureau. He accompanied the American Fleet on several voyages including one through the Straits of Magellan in 1907. ReuterdahlÕs work can be found in the collections of the National Museum in Washington, The Naval Academy in Annapolis, and the Naval War College in Newport.
