This is an original 1900 halftone print of "The American Girl At Church," featuring an illustration by Howard Chandler Christy. This is the first of a series of eight drawings illustrating the American girl in her different phases by Mr. Christy.

Howard Chandler Christy (1873-1952)

Born in Duncan Falls, Ohio, Howard Chandler Christy was one of America's most distinguished and easily recognized illustrators. He established himself as an illustrator when he accompanied American troops to Cuba during the Spanish American War and illustrated articles for Scribner's and Leslie's Weekly. Later he was best known for his pictures of exceptionally beautiful women, popularly known as Christy Girls. He was also a teacher, muralist, and portraitist of many notable figures.
