This is an original circa 1901 black and white wood engraving of a painting by William Frederick Yeames (1835-1918) entitled "The Meeting of Thomas More with His Daughter after His Sentence of Death". Sir Thomas More (1478-1535) was a Roman Catholic lawyer, author, and philosopher who openly opposed the Protestant Reformation and King Henry VIII's annulment from Catherine of Aragon. He was tried for treason and executed on July 6, 1535.
