This is an original 1902 black and white halftone print of the Promenade des Anglais along the coastline of Nice in the French Riviera as it appeared at the turn of the century. The building seen off the coast was du casino de la Jetée-Promenade and can no longer be seen marking the coast of Nice. During the German Occupation of France in World War II, du casino de la Jetée-Promenade was dismantled. The entire structure was stripped for precious metals and other materials for the war effort by 1944 leaving only the pier which can be seen today.
