This is an original 1903 black and white halftone print of the Satti Chaura Ghat, the site in Cawnpore (Kanpur), India, where the unfolding events of the 1857 Uprising of India took place. The ghat (steps leading to water) were given the preface "massacre" by the East India Company after approximately 300 British men, women and children were brutally slaughtered here during that fateful Indian Sepoy Mutiny of 1857.
