This is an original 1903 halftone print featuring an image of Morris High School, located at 166th Street, Boston Road and Jackson Avenue in New York. The building was designed by architect C. B. J. Snyder and built by Louis Wechsler. Morris High School was erected in 1897, and was the first high school constructed in the Bronx, as well as one of the original New York City Public High Schools created by the 1896 New York City school reform act. The school was named after Gouverneur Morris, who was one of the selected few to sign the United States Constitution. Morris was also considered author of its Preamble. While there are many, perhaps the most notable alumni of the school was United States Secretary Colin Powell. The Morris High School was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. In 2002, the building was converted to house five separate specialty schools, including the Morris Academy for Collaborative Study, Bronx International High School, the School for Excellence, High School for Violin and Dance and Bronx Leadership Academy 2.
