"Hepatina, Shrine Symbolic of the Center of the World."

This is an original 1904 halftone print of the Zuni shrine of Hepatina which symbolizes the center of the world in Zuni mythology. The letter A indicates the position of the shrine when the Zuni lived on Corn Mountain.

Period Paper has obtained an unusual collection of original color lithographs and halftone prints of images of the A:shiwi or Zuni people and culture of Zuni Pueblo in New Mexico circa 1901-1902. These lithographs and prints include images of Zuni mythology, religious ceremonies and rituals, festivals, the arts, architecture, and various portraits of the Zuni people.
