This is an original 1906 color print of a view of the city of Venice, Italy, from the steps of San Giorgio Maggiore which is a Benedictine church from the 16th century. Across the Grand Canal, Saint Mark's Campanile (bell tower) can be seen towering above Saint Mark's Square and the Doge's Palace.

The original artwork in this print was created by Myles Birket Foster (1825-1899). Foster was an English watercolor artist and illustrator. He was born in North Shields, England, to a Quaker family. Foster was apprenticed to a wood engraver named Ebenezer Landells in London and worked as an illustrator for books and periodicals. He is also known for his landscapes which he painted as he traveled throughout Europe.
