This is an original 1906 two-color halftone print of the home of Daniel Decatur Emmett (1815-1904) at Mount Vernon, Ohio. Emmett was an American songwriter and blackface minstrel singer best known as the composer of the words and music to the popular American song "Dixie," (aka "I Wish I Was in Dixie" or "Dixie's Land"). Although the song was written by Emmett, a Northerner, the song was adopted by the Confederate states as a sort of national anthem during the American Civil War.
