This is an original 1906 halftone print of a piece by Dutch artist Jan Steen (1616-1679). Known for his sense of humor and love of scenes from daily life, this piece, entitled "The Cat's Dancing Lesson" depicts a droll event in which a family is gathered around a table trying to force a poor kitten into dancing for their amusement. However, the kitty doesn't seem to be in pain, and it all seems to be in good fun, so the only question which should remain in anyone's minds is why that creepy old man is watching them from the top window.
