This is an original 1906 halftone print of an aerial view of Rotterdam, Netherlands (Nederland), the second-largest city of the country, and home of one of the largest ports in the world. The city was built in 1270 as a dam on the Rotte river, and is situated at the Rhine-Meuse-Scheldt delta of the North Sea. Due to this strategic location, the city is sometimes known as the "Gateway to Europe," as Rotterdam is the heart of a large distribution system.
