This is an original 1907 halftone print of a piece by Venetian Renaissance artist Vittore Carpaccio (c. 1465-1525), who is best known his conservative, large-scale detachable wall-paintings, which were not as humanistic in nature as the work of his other Italian contemporaries. Carpaccio also did a number of paintings focusing of the legend of Saint Ursula, and this one is of no exception. Here, we see Saint Ursula bidding farewell to his parents before commencing her exhaustive journey which ultimately culminated in her beheading.
