This is an original 1907 halftone print of Mr. C. H. Duffy holding his prized 19 1/2 pound Yellowtail Amberjack. The couple was fishing in what is assumed to be California. Yellowtails live in both the Pacific and Indian Oceans are are divided into three sub-species-- the California yellowtail, the southern yellowtail, and the Asian yellowtail. They can live for over 30 years.
The Yellowtail was very common in California, but has now seen a decrease in population due to overfishing.
