This is an original 1909 color print of the Rokku, or Theater Street district of Asakusa in Tokyo, Japan. This famous neighborhood was reputed to have been the site of outdoor Kabuki theater and troupes performing to promote their theaters and cinema houses. However, after the 1923 earthquake which destroyed many of Tokyo's structures, this district would become home to cabarets which would in turn be replaced by less reputable forms of entertainment.
