This is an original 1909 black and white halftone print of two Negrito men climbing a tree in order to gather fruit and birds' nests. This aboriginal tribe in the Philippines had a particularly effective method of climbing having created a sort of ladder out of shorter trees and bamboo slats.

The Negrito people are a widespread culture in Southeast Asia with different names depending on region, yet today they are all referred to as "Negrito." This is partially because the classification was made by Spanish explorers who, not knowing they were different tribes, called all aboriginal pygmy tribes Negrito (Little black person). Today, due to the spreading as well as disappearances of tribes it is near impossible to truly define background, so the term remains.
