This collection represents images taken on an early twentieth century automobile trip through Europe. The car driven, for what at the time was a very adventurous trip, was a 1911 Maxwell Mascotte Touring car, a two-seated, four-cylinder 28 horsepower roadster, with a folding seat in the rear, which on occasion could hold two additional passengers, but was more generally closed and used as a deck onto which a trunk was bolted. The adventurers also carried two spare tires and extra oil and gasoline in this time of early automobiles. To give an idea of just how significant the mode of transportation was on this adventure, the Ford Model T had just started production in 1908, and the high-wheel motor buggy, resembling a horse-less carriage, was in its heyday in the United States.
