This is an original 1912 halftone print of what used to be a common view in the small island cluster of Matsushima in Japan. Widely considered to be one of Japan's most scenic areas, this is a beautiful view with the mountains and traditional Japanese architecture fading into the background.
In March of 2011, the Matsushima area was hit by an earthquake with a 9.0 magnitude and then, consequentially, a tsunami followed. Fortunately, the same islands which make Matsushima scenic protected the region from most of the projected damage.
