This is an original 1914 halftone print of the Solovetsky Monastery on Solovetsky Island in Russia. The citadel was considered to be the greatest of Russian Christianity before it was turned into a Soviet labor camp and prison in the late 1920s. The monastery is surrounded by seven gates and eight towers, and walls ranging from eight to eleven meters.
