This is an original 1916 color print of a painting by Franois Flameng of the wounded arriving by sleigh to a first aid post in Alsace, France during World War I.

Founded by ƒdouard Charton, the first issue was published on March 4, 1843. The magazine ceased publication in 1944. L'Illustration was known for its extensive use of beautiful illustrative material as well as for its articles. The illustrated pieces represent some of the finest quality printing from that eraÐÐusing as many as a dozen unique inks, metallic inks, emboss and deboss dies, and they were printed on a variety of the finest textured and untextured papers.
