This is an original 1918 black and white print ad for flash lamps and other photography equipment by Boots, The Chemists. They are located at 182 Regent Street, London and 112 & 118 Edgware Road, London.

Boots which has been known as The Boots Company, Boots the Chemist Ltd and Boots Stores Ltd, is a popular pharmacy chain in the United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland, Norway, Sweden and other European countries.

In 1849 John Boot established Boots which was a family herbal medicine shop in Nottingham, England. The American United Drug Company bought the business from Jesse Boot, John's son, in 1920. It did not go over well in North America and was sold back to to the grandson of the founder, John Boot. In 1968 Timothy Whites and Taylors Ltd chain was acquired by the company.

The 1990s were a busy time for Boots. In 1991 they acquired Halfords, which was a bicycle and car parts business which they sold in 2002. They developed the Children's World business and sold it to Mothercare. They created the chain Do-It-All home furnishings and sold it to Focus. They ventured into spa services like botox and and laser eye surgery. Ibuprofen the painkiller was invented by Boots when they started research on manufacturing drugs. In 2006 Boots sold the Nurofen brand to Reckitt Benckiser.

Most recently Boots and Alliance UnicChem merged in 2006. They were known as Alliance Boots plc. Kohlberg Kravis Roberts and Stefano Pessina, the deputy chairman of Alliance Boots, bought the new company making it private.
