This is an original 1918 black and white print for a patriotic wall tablet recently installed in the Catholic Club of the city of New York by its membership as a token of regard for its members in the service. There 4 side images are battle flags that were reproduced as as banners and hang on the walls of the clubhouse. Figure 25 shows the Talmadge Dragoons whose name was associated with many daring raids and quick maneuvers carried this characteristic ensign of a winged sphere surrounded by lightning and thunderbolts. Figure 26 shows the Rhode Island battle flag, with the anchor of Hope as its symbolic device, was carried through the battles of Brandwine, Trenton and Yorkstown. It now rests in the Rhode Island State House at Providence. Figure 27 shows the Liberty Tree device with the inscription, "An Appeal to God," appeared simultaneously on many of our battle flags in 1776. In Boston the Sons of Liberty met under an old elm tree in Hanover Square. Figure 28 shows a flag with a device given by John Hancock, as First Governor of Massachusetts, to "the Bucks of America," a patriotic colored company of that state, in recognition of their valor.
