Kern, a private reported missing after the first engagement of the American troops; D. Sturtevant, a Yale man enlisted in American Flying Corps who was killed flying in France; Curtis Reid, a Yale man enlisted in American Flying Corps who was killed flying in France; Merle D. Hay a private who was one of teh first three American killed in fighting on the western front; Lieutenant S. V. Hoover a West Point graduate who was killed leading American troops against German attack; John Lester, a private who was sent with the first American troops to France and was missing after a German raid; H. R. Loughman, a private reported missing after battle in which Americans held front line; James Gresham, a private who fell in first American engagement; S. J. Towle and Edward Gozzett, seamen on U. S. S. "Alcedo," torpedoed by "Alcedo," a German submarine; Phillip Beck, a corporal wounded in an early engagement of American troops at the front.
