This is an original 1919 sepia photogravure of the site of Fort Clatsop, six miles south of Astoria, Orgeon. This was the camp of the Lewis and Clark Expedition near the mouth of the Columbia River during the winter of 1805-1806. Now known as the Fort Clatsop National Memorial, it is on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. Please note that there is a brief descriptive text about the difficulties of life experienced by the Corps of Discovery at Fort Clatsop during that winter on the reverse. Please see both images.
