This is an original 1922 sepia rotogravure of an American sentry on the Rhine river near Coblenz, Germany (Deutschland). The caption for the image reads, "One of the members of the American army of occupation doing guard duty on the Rhine near Coblenz. For many years that classic river had known none but German sentries, and nothing more completely typifies the defeat of the Central Powers than the presence of this sentinel from the other side of the world."
