This is an original 1922 sepia rotogravure of Belgian soldiers lining up and shooting at the Germans at Mechelen (Malines/Mechlin), Belgium during World War I. The lower image shows the German cavalry and infantry in the square of Brussels. The caption writes, "So violent was their attack and so irresistible their numbers that the Belgian capital fell a few weeks after war was declared."
