This is an original 1922 sepia rotogravure of an image depicting a battle in the Carpathian Mountains during World War I. The bottom image shows an Austrian horse cavalry asking for directions in a Russian village. The caption writes, "Austrian uhlans in a Russian village who are uncertain of the road to be followed and are receiving directions from peasants. At extreme left the leader of the detachment is studying his maps."
