This is an original 1922 sepia rotogravure of images depicting the execution and burial of Edith Cavell, a British nurse and spy remembered for saving the lives of hundreds of soldiers, and helping 200 Allied soldiers during World War I escape German-occupied Belgium. The Germans convicted her of treason, and murdered her. The top image shows Cavell descending the staircase on her way to the execution on October 13, 1915. The bottom left image shows the funeral pushing toward Parliament Square in London. Also shown is a portrait and statue of the brave woman.
