This is an original 1923 halftone print of a Sphinx-lined avenue by the Great Temple of Karnak, located in Karnak (ancient Thebes), Egypt. Some of the worlds most remarkable sphinxes can be found here. Some were shaped like kneeling rams, while some were shaped like lions with human heads. These sphinxes were positioned to line the pathways of the Temple. This particular image depicts a sphinx lined path leading from the Temple of Karnak to the river-quay. Photography by Gaddis & Seif.
