This is an original 1924 halftone print for Rev. Dr. Harry Emerson Fosdick who was the professor of practical Theology at the Union Theological Seminary of New York. He became an important figure in the Fundamentalist-Modernist Controversy within American Protestantism. In 1922 at First Presbyterian Church, he gave his famous sermon "Shall the Fundamentalists Win" where he defended the modernist position. He stated that the Bible is a record of the unfolding of God's will and not as the literal Word of God. To the fundamentalists, this was apostasy and the battle lines were drawn.
