This is an original 1925 halftone print of the fort at Basoko in the Tshopo district of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The caption writes, "With its crenelated, whitewashed ramparts, its gateway flanked by turrets loopholed for musketry, it has a medieval appearance which is strangely incongruous in these equatorial wilds."
