This is an original 1926 black and white halftone print of Ottoman Sultan Mehmed II or Mehmed the Conqueror. In 1451, he ascended to the throne and proceeded to conquer Constantinople (modern Istanbul), then seat of the Roman Empire of the Byzantines, proclaiming himself Caesar. This was a declaration that many did not accept, thus began the rise of the Ottoman Empire.
