Francis Luis Mora

Francis Luis Mora (1874-1940) was an artist hailing from Montevideo, Uruguay, prior to relocating to New York City, where he received his formal art education at the Art Students League of New York. However, he also studied at the Boston Museum of Fine Art. Mora was most recognized for his paintings, illustrations, graphic art design, sculptures, fresco murals, mosaics and printmaking, as well as his classical, impressionism and realism styles. He was also well known for being an illustrator for CollierÕs magazine, HarperÕs Weekly, Bazaar, Monthly and The Century magazine. His works primarily focused on figures, animals, botanical and floral, Native American culture, landscapes, nudes, townscapes, marine and nautical, portraits, seascapes, genre, national parks and historical subjects. MoraÕs art has been exhibited at the Panama-Pacific International Exhibition of 1915 (San Francisco WorldÕs Fair), the Louisiana Purchase Exposition of 1904 (St. Louis WorldÕs Fair), the Corcoran Gallery of Washington D. C., the Art Institute of Chicago, National Academy of Design, the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and more. He was affiliated with the Boston Art Club, the Salmagundi Club, the Society of American Artists, the Society of Illustrators, the Allied Artists of America, the American Federation of Arts, the WPA Federal Arts Project and more.
