This is an original 1927 monochrome halftone print portrait of the famous silent film actress, Mary Pickford (1892-1979). Born Gladys Marie Smith, she was known as "America's Sweetheart" and "Little Mary." A child stage actor, her first screen appearance was with the Biograph Company under the direction of D. W. Griffith. Starring in such films as "Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm" (1917), "Pollyanna" (1920), and "Tess of the Storm Country" (1922), she became one of the richest and most influential women in Hollywood. She helped to establish United Artists Pictures and was one of 36 founders of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
