This is an original 1928 sepia halftone print which depicts the rather quirky tradition which the Duchess d'Uzès (1847Ð1933) was particularly fond of, the Blessing of the Hounds. This event was considered to officially open the French hunting season. Apparently the dear old lady continued to hunt until she was well into her eighties.

From the late 19th century to the beginning of World War I, such artistic figures as Paul Morand, Auguste Rodin, Colette, Jules Romains, Sarah Bernhardt and many more sprang out of the woodwork to claim their rightful places in the theaters and cafés of Paris. They were the innovators who began literary movements, created new forms of dance, and set the stage for generations to come.
