This is an original 1929 black and white print ad for a contest run by
Photoplay Magazine to find a smart new name for talking pictures other than, as they put it, the inelegant "talkie." Prize money of $500 will be awarded. Some names already suggested include: audien, cinelog, dramaphone, phototone, cinephone, and photovoice. This is an interesting original piece of movie history as the format changed from silent to talking pictures.
