Bonington, Richard Parkes

Richard Parkes Bonington (Oct. 25, 1802 - Sept. 23, 1828) was an English Romantic landscape painter who grew up in France. His landscapes were of coastal scenes with a low horizon and large sky, showing his handling of light and atmosphere. He learned how to watercolor from his father and exhibited paintings at the Liverpool Academy at age 11. He traveled around Paris and the surrounding countryside creating paintings before he met Eugene Delacroix, who convinced him to start historical paintings. He died at age 25 from tuberculosis.
