1929 Print Loggers Log Lumber Horse Forest Winter Trees ORIGINAL HISTORIC WIS1

This is an original 1929 halftone print of loggers in Wisconsin. The top image is of logs stacked at a landing, and the bottom image is of two horses pulling a log through the snow.

The lumber industry controlled much of the northern part of the state during the middle of the 1800s. Heavy deforestation led the state to transfer to dairy production to make better use of their land.
