This is an original 1930 halftone print of Baron Takuma Dan-- the leader of the Mitsui family conglomerate of Japan. He graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Dan was assassinated in 1932 during the League of Blood Incident-- where extremists plotted to kill wealthy businessmen and liberal politicians. Twenty men were targetted during the incident-- but only two were killed.

The Mitsui group can trace back its history to the 1670s with Mitsui Takatoshi. The group owns several industries in Japan and around the world. It currently has offices in 67 countries. Companies affiliated with the group are Mitsui & Company, Chuo Mitsui Trust Holdings, Mitsui Chemicals, Japan Steel Works, Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Group, Oji Paper Company, Pacific Coast Recycling, Taiheiyo Cement, and Toray Industries as well as several others. At the time of this image, the United States was purchasing silk almost exclusively from Mitsui.
