This is an original 1930 halftone print of Milwaukee in 1850. Milwaukee was home to the tribes of the Fox, the Menominee, Sauk, Mascouten, Ojibwe, Potawatomi, and Ho-Chunk tribes, and was first settled by a French Canadian in 1785. The name 'Milwaukee' comes from the Potawatomi or Ojibwe language meaning "meeting place by the water."
