This is an original 1930 black and white halftone print of a portrait of Sir Walter Raleigh, who was an English aristocrat, writer, poet, solider, courtier, spy and explorer. He was well known for popularizing tobacco in England. He heard there was a "City of Gold" in South America so he sent out to find it. At the end of his life he was imprisoned for allegedly being involved with the plot to kill King James I.
