This is an original 1931 black and white print ad for Seventeen products, such as powder, perfume, lipstick, compacts, Toilet Water, Sachet, Brilliantines and Talcum and Dusting powders. This ad features Joan Crawford, born Lucille Fay LeSueur, who was a famous actress on Broadway, as well as in film and television. During the Great Depression Era, Crawford starred in many films where she portrayed a hardworking business woman who found romance and financial success. However, in the 1930s, she was referred to as "Box Office Poison," along with such incredible actors and celebrities as Katharine Hepburn and Fred Astaire. In 1945, Crawford won the Academy Award for Best Actress fro the film Mildred Pierce. In the 1970s, unforgiving photographs of Crawford were published causing her to go into self-seclusion until her death in 1977.
