This is an original 1931 color print portrait of John D. Rockefeller. Rockefeller was the founder of Standard Oil, and became the first person in America who was worth more than a billion dollars. Standard OIl was a monopoly and fueled the trust-busting movement. The company was known for underselling its goods to ward off competitors, and seemed to always prevail against critics and politicians. Rockefeller was a controversial character, but spent a lot of his fortune on foundations for education, research and medicine.
