This is an original 1931 color print of Michael Romanoff. He was elected in 1613 at the age of seventeen. The caption writes, "Ironically, his selection was due partly to the fact that he was not of princely family. His grandson, Peter the Great, made modern Russia. his great-great-granddaughter-in-law, Catherine, made the Russian court traditionally so magnificent and munificent that the last Romanoff, Nicholas II, found his annual governmental appropriation of $6,000,000 no match for his needs."
