This is an original 1933 color offset lithograph of Queen Mary of England, who succeeded the throne after her younger half-brother, Edward VI, died of an unknown disease. Upon Edward's death, Mary's cousin, Lady Jane Grey, was proclaimed the queen, but Mary successfully deposed her, and she was beheaded. Mary reestablished Roman Catholicism to the throne. During her reign, Mary burned over 280 religious dissenters at the stake, hence her nickname, "Bloody Mary."
