The caption writes, "Helen Taft Manning is the daughter of the late William Howard Taft and has been Dean of Bryn Mawr off and on since 1917. She holds a Yale Ph.D. in history, and is the wife of Frederick Johnson Manning, professor of history at Swarthmore."
